Swim for Change, founded by Philip Townsend and supported by SAE Institute Cape Town and Bridges for Music, is a project dedicated to offering educational opportunities to the youth of South Africa, through the transformative power of music, creativity and collaboration.
The inaugural Swim for Change candidate of 2016 is Anele Noranya.
Born in one of the notorious townships in Cape Town, Anele was surrounded by people who identified with gangsters more than leaders. He is an enthusiastic individual that is passionate about the creative industry and that invests most of his time in positive activities such as developing his skills and others’ lives. He is passionate about mentorship to unemployed youth and getting them to think in an entrepreneurial manner so that they can uplift themselves.
The Swim for change initiative hopes to raise R75 000 by May 2017 to give Anele the opportunity to pursue his musical dream at SAE starting July 2017.
Philip, in a show of fierce dedication to the cause, will swim to Robben Island, the spiritual home of the struggle for freedom in South Africa. The great swim, otherwise known as the freedom swim, will act as a symbol for the project’s core values of passion, dedication, determination and self-belief.
